The image was taken at Mount Carleton Provincial Park in early March 2026. A dark sky preserve, the park hosts countless visitors in all four seasons. The ice dome, dedicated to the indigenous people of the region, is a symbol honouring their traditional and ancestral unceded lands, which I wanted to highlight with a soft red light inside that a long exposure would make a beacon of light in the naturally dark skies of the region, capturing mighty Orion the hunter. The image captures the spirit of land and people in a special place in winter.
