Deep within the limestone cave systems of Waitomo Glowworm Caves lives one of New Zealand’s most fascinating creatures: the glow worm, Arachnocampa luminosa. Suspended from cave ceilings, these remarkable insects emit an ethereal blue green light that transforms the darkness into a living galaxy. Their glow serves a purpose which is attracting unsuspecting insects into delicate, sticky silk threads. Venturing deep beneath the surface, we explored the underground rivers and hidden chambers of Waitomo to photograph this elusive species, witnessing a breathtaking natural spectacle found nowhere else on Earth.
